Daisy Nell & Capt. Stan - Music of the Sea & Shore
Although we try to take our listeners to far away places with our music, we often find universal themes right in our own lives, our own roots. The sea around us often dominates our music, but family life and ties to the shore are very strong for both of us.
* Daisy Nell*, native of Essex, MA, mainstay of the shipbuilding industry for over 300 years, brings alive New England’s maritime history through traditional songs of the sea. A familiar voice on the North Shore music scene, she is known for her broad repertoire of traditional folk, chanteys, and contemporary songs.
*Her husband, Capt. Stan*, adds his guitar and dobro to Daisy's banjo and guitar. Together they cover a lot of territory, from the foc’s’le to the farm! Daisy has been associated with school programming for many years as a free-lance in-school artist, nursery school music teacher, and museum educator. She also has written and implemented on board interpretative programs on various vessels, including the Mimi and the schooner Adventure. She has written the signature song for Adventure, among others, and even takes a crack at advertising jingles on local cable TV. Stan Collinson started out in high school folk groups and moved on to a performing duo in college with man- dolin titan Taylor Armerding of Northern Lights fame. When not tuning his guitar or dobro, might be found tuning up an engine at his business, Gaybrook Garage in Essex. Stan was also at the helm of his free-range turkey farm for many years. Sadly, Boundary Farm is no longer raising birds, but the occasional off course sea gull roosts on the roof. Their music is a shared love, and they hope to share it with you. Their band will consist of four pieces: Daisy Nell, Stan Collinson plus Steve Wainwright on bass and Pat Conlon on mandolin. www.daisynell.com

Beatle Tracks - Beatle Tribute Band
BeatleTracks is a Beatles tribute band which is committed to performing the authentic sounding music of the Beatles live in concert. Formed in 2002 the band was drawn together by their love of the Beatles and the desire to keep alive the sounds that have brought them so much joy. The band members are real "Beatle artists", having played and sang these songs most of their lives. BeatleTracks also brings uniqueness to its shows with its Beatle's Trivia interaction with the audience. * /Ken Sandler/* Rhythm Guitar, Keyboard and Vocals picked up his first guitar at age five and has been playing one ever since. The Beatles have had a huge influence on him as a guitarist and singer. He's been playing and singing these songs most of his life. Playing in a Beatles band and re-creating this great music continues to be a life long passion for him. /*John Haberstroh*/ Bass Guitar, Vocals, Beatles Trivia, and MC is a walking Beatles encyclopedia. Audiences love his interaction with heavy duty Beatles Trivia and slide show! His first exposure to the Beatles was in 1964 during the Invasion, but then life intruded and he didn't make it back to the Beatles until 1969. His buddy played "Eleanor Rigby." and his brother played Sgt. Pepper and that was it, he turned into a Beatlmaniac on the spot. He played in dozens of bands throughout the years and have recorded a number of original songs over the years, one of which was a number one hit in several countries called "Pride." In 1989 he moved to Boston and eventually made his way into BeatleTracks together with his guitars, amps and the still exciting thrill and magic of listening to and playing Beatles music." /*Brian Pike*/ Lead Guitar, Harmonica, Keyboard and Vocals brings an unmatched excellence to Beatles lead guitar performing George Harrison's riffs to a tee. He also plays great harmonica and keyboards. Audiences delight at the live harmonica in Love Me Do. He first heard The Beatles was when he was five. His older sister played the Rubber Soul album. But it wasn*t until he was 14 when his older brother played the "White Album" for him that he became a Beatlemaniac. He bought a Beatles songbook to teach himself how to play guitar. He's been playing their music for over thirty (!) years now, and continue to find it just as exciting as when he first started playing. /*Bill Betz*/ Drums, Percussion and Keyboard expertly brings Ringo's drumming style to BeatleTracks. Bill has been playing drums since grade school. He has been a Beatles fan since the early days. Bill studied percussion at Ithaca College. He loves Ringo's minimalist approach and strives to present the same level of intelligent backbeat and fills to the BeatleTracks song list. "Ringo's playing is so natural and unforced. He makes an essential contribution to each song's structure and feel." /*Bruce Roberts*/ Sound Technician, Samp- ling, Media, Drums and Percussion along with running the media show, lights and sound, Bruce plays all the great percussion bits as heard on the original Beatles recordings.

Karen Ristuben Jazz Combo
/*KAREN RISTUBEN*/: One of Rockport's own, Karen Ristuben brings her smoky, sultry stylings to the American Songbook and much more. Accompanying herself on her classic Gibson, and joined by a variety of duo, trio, and quartet-mates, Karen has brightened up a host of New England venues in the past few years with a fresh take on some of the best of the jazz age. She can handle the complex intervals of Monk as easily as crooning the ballads of Mercer and Strayhorn, and she frequently introduces choice new band originals and interpretations of other genres. Also an acclaimed sculptor and art educator, Karen will release "Too Much", her first CD, in early 2008.
/*MASON DARING*/: A regular member of the Ristuben combo, film composer/record producer/songwriter Mason Daring joins Karen on guitar for their second Rockport New Years Eve performance. Mason composed the killer music for all of John Sayles' films including Secret of Roan Inish and Lone Star, and most recently, Honey Dripper. He has many other feature films, television series, and documentaries to his credit, encompassing an incredibly wide range of musical styles. The band regularly performs Mason's recently composed original songs, some of his first since "Marblehead Morning".
/*RORY MCKENZIE*/ on bass: This Cape-Ann-Man is, literally, a North Shore legend. Simply HAVING him in the Ristuben combo immediately gives us extra credibility (not to mention a solid foundation for their sound). Ask him to play jazz. There it is. Ask him to play country. Yup, that too! Rock? Funk? Disco? Celtic? Yiddish? You NAME it, he's PLAYED it. Mention a song. There he goes. He's got the bass part DOWN. Kinda makes you laugh with wonder.
When we asked him to say a little something for his web-blurb he sent the following in an E-mail. "PARADIGM; People think that just ANY baboon can play bass. That's WRONG. It takes a very SPECIAL baboon to play bass!" ... Now WHO can argue with THAT?
/*RICK GERAGHTY*/: drum man from Gloucester. Software Engineer at Axcelis Technologies in Beverly by day. Took a twenty year hiatus from music to concentrate on family (wife and 3 daughters) but now loves playing the standards with KR combo as well as some blues, funk, soul and rock with SugarBlues, and traditional marches with the Boston Firemen's Band. Was also an original member of local classic rock band Garfish.
And last but certainly not least: /*ALEK RAZDAN*/ joins the group to welcome in 2008. A Rockport High School freshman by day and smokin' tenor sax player by night and weekend, Alek continues to evolve his already excellent tone and timing. Alek and his dad Rick lead "A Train", gigging regularly and recording with John Hyde and "Doc" Vincent.

Tamarac – Fran & Roger Pierce – Folk
Remember how wonderful it was in the 60s watching the folk music revival led by groups like the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, Tommy Makem & the Clancy Brothers, Joan Baez and of course the Smothers Brothers? Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear through the moving musical performance of Tamarac. This husband and wife duo of Fran & Roger Pierce blend tight harmony and instruments into everything that was exciting about the folk era; lively songs, fascinating stories and original music; a magical performance which will tug at your heart, make you smile and possibly bring tears to your eyes. They utilize the rich folk tradition during their performances but are not restrained by any barriers when it comes to musical selections. They can slide from a folk ballad to a Beatles cover without skipping a beat and in the process touch their audiences with their finely crafted songs of love, children, home, country, villains and heroes. And in the true folk tradition, their songs are tied together with serious and in Roger’s case, quite silly patter. Drawing on more than a quarter of a century of professional performances throughout New England, Tamarac gives a truly moving and seemingly effortless musical gift to their audiences. It is indeed a shared experience as they involve the audience in all kinds of banter and songs. It is difficult to ascertain who is enjoying themselves more, Tamarac or their audience!! This group loves their music and it shows… Join them at their next performance and see why thousands of people throughout New England smile at the mention of the name Tamarac.

The Jolly Rogues - Seafaring Songs
This talented band of musicians and singers has a varied, intriguing repertoire of 18th and 19th Century material from period commemorative, tavern/drinking, romantic ballads, sea shanties, children's ditties, songs of revolt. Included among the songs are those which invite listening (instrumentals), clapping and foot tapping or singing along with a solo or harmonic melody. Others may invoke a melancholy mood. Among the titles will be found "Rosin the Bow", "Lizzie Lindsay", "Captain Kidd", "All for Me Grog", "Yankee Doodle", "Star of the County Down", "The Parting Glass", "Rattlin Bog", "Boston Harbor Shanty" plus "Harvest Home", "Mermaid", "Boys of Blue Hill", "Johnny has Gone for A Soldier", "Three Jolly Coachmen", "Maid of Amsterdam", "Greenland Whale Fishery". Depending on the programs purpose and musical selection, The Rogues appear attired in either 18th or 19th Century clothing or a combination of the two periods, adding to the color and charm of the performance. Each musical selection has a prelude explanation of the songs history, folklore and meaning. A myriad of emotions is expected to be experienced by the audience.
You can tell that these gentlemen are into history, and you don't need to look too far for an affirmation of that fact--they are members of The Guild of Historic Interpreters. They stay pretty true to olde times as well, and if you see them perform you'll probably find them dressing in three-cornered hats and knickers and using traditional instruments. The Rogues are carving out a unique niche in local musical entertainment. Why not make them a part of your experience?
